General Revenue and Payroll
General revenue is one of the most important and vital statistics for a city. It shows how much money a city is generating through taxes and other revenue streams. Comparing past general revenue shows growth or decline. Unfortunately, Granite City’s will drop by $8,107,089 next year, to $31,306,525. This will be the lowest since 2019, six years ago.
The current administration’s answer to this problem is by cutting funding to three vital departments, Police by $3,695,919 , Fire by $2,930,732 and Financial by $2,496,212.

Despite the lowest general revenue in six years, the top positions for the city increased their own wages, benefits and increased funding for three departments: mayor, aldermen and clerk. In addition, the city has added 10 more city employees that make more than $75,000 a year in total compensation packages since 2022. The top 159 employees make a total of $16,317,835 in total compensation packages. That is 52% of the general revenue for one year. Can Granite City change its negative trends and prosper by cutting funding from essential services while raising city employee wages and benefits?

With the $88,000,000 sale of the Wastewater Treatment Facility to pay for pensions, doubling and tripling the population’s sewer bills, should Granite City leadership be increasing their own wages and the number of highly paid officials? With general revenue dropping to its lowest in six years, what will be the next asset to be sold to pay for pensions, city official's wages and benefits, at the expense of the people?
